Actually, it was the Household Guard that burned down the Whitehouse, and as Canadians at the time were avowedly loyal to the crown and considered themselves British they were more than happy to accept military assistance from Home. Most of the soldiers fighting were British.Lt.Phoenix wrote:Again, the British Regiments that fought there were part of the British NorthWest Military, or the Canadian Military. Even though Canada was not seperate from Britian yet, it was Canadian soldiers that fought for Canada, not Britain soldiers. There was help from the British navy, but they didn't burn down the White house, although they did escort them, and they never took place in the major battles. The unit that burned down the whitehouse was a Candian Metis guerilla unit. They also burned down many bases on their way. Yes, Canada did recive help from Britain in the War of 1812, mainly so that they could silence America, which they did, but they didn't Fight for Canada, Canadians did.

The Brits may have burned down the White House but that was after we burned down some kind of parliment building. We did not lose that war. We did, however, not win either. It was really a draw. No one achieved their full objectives. America wanted Britain our of the Ohio area, and Britain wanted to retake America. Neither did what they want. And no land was even exchanged.

America lost, deal with it jr. America was not united sectionally or politcally, it's only thanks to the fact that England was fighting a war for SURVIVAL against Napoleon did we manage to hold on. Even though Ol Hickory kicked the crap outta you Brits at New Orleans, hehe.

Haha America a massive power?
Mostly farmers fought the Brits in that time, WW1 made America a massive power. The Brits would have won if they wouldnt be fighting in 4-10 country's at all times. Where did u heard America wus a massive power? ...Farmers aint that much of a use, and a army that isnt even ¼ of the enemy army wouldnt look that impressive. Anyways the Brits invented alot of stuff for both militairy and industrial use.
Conclusion, America wus weak and was even weaker next to Brits.

(Britain was great, but now they're socialist, on the verge of communist, and unless they return to capitalism, mercantilism even, they will never be great again...and the U.S. is following in your socialist footsteps....ARG)
India was thousands of miles away from Europe....They would have to expand the game HUGELY in scale to do that, the only extra empire they could've possibly added was the Ottoman Empire, which was sort of in its prime at this time. And was Italy even united yet???

The rules never changed. War was never a civil affair. It's bloodthirsty andOfficerpuppy wrote:Just a random thought...............after the American civil war and up untill the first world war.
When did the rules of war/formality really change? Yes I know it was mostly the technology but that couldnt of been the sole reason. From commanders meeting on the field peacefully, all these rules and gentelmenly conduct, to just plain carnage, hole digging, and throwing the rule book out the window.
Maybe us as humans became more ruthless. I sincerly doubt a marine unit in Iraq will walk across a street and have a cup of tea with the same insurgients they will fight in a few minutes. Or a member of the IRA sit down with an English captain for a list of grivances. Or a member of Hezbolla send a letter to a few Palistinians on the time and place of a fight and look forward to hear from them if they accept those terms.
primitive. The british murdered scottish wounded after Bonny Prince
Charlie's defeat to prevent them rising up again.
They intentionally misused and starved thousands of blacks during the
Boer wars. When fighting "non-whites" the british as a rule gave no
quarter and saughtered the enemy wholesale.
The romans crucified the remainder of Spartacus army after he was
defeated. All throughout history wars are times when morality is laid aside.
To think that war during any period was civil you have to adopt a very
selective view of the world.
Italy was united in 1861 without Rome and Venice. After Austrian war with Prussians (1866) they conquered Venice and finally Rome in 1870 - as a conclusion - its historically correct that there is no Italy faction ;]

Re: Empires
[quote="ArchdukeMagyar"]Is it me, or have the developers of IG seriously rushed their work on the 'Austrian' (Should be Austro-Hungarian) Empire?
They are correct in calling it the Austrian Empire. The Austro-Hungarian Empire was not formed until 1867 with Ausgliech(comprimise) with Franz Josef as emperor, giving Hungary semi-autonomy over their internal affairs. Setting up the Dual-Monarchy which ended, after their defeat in WW1
[quote="ArchdukeMagyar"]Also, it also seems like the Austria empire has pretty crappy troops...game seems to give them a raw deal. In the demo, their troops are markedly inferior.
In the demo the Austrians are using inferior Line infantry against British Grenadiers and Black Watch. If you go into the files and swap out the Austrian starting troops with their own Grenadiers and Royal Guards(Black Watch equivalent) you will find the Austrian troops to be more than crappy and quite able to stand up to the British.
