HOUSEHOLD CAVALRY ?, WHAT A JOKE.

Post by calvados »

:? Having played the demo and looked at the images of the British land units on the official website, I am very dissapointed with the inaccurate representation of the land units.

I have read the excuse about wanting to keep all Brits red and French blue to prevent player confusion. This is nonsense. What do you think they carried great big flags around for. Seeing the demo they are quite sufficient.

Its not just the uniforms but the unit types as well. The biggest botch up has got to be the Household cavalry. Note, in the game there is a unit type called household cavalry. A dragoon in red tunic with carbine. Then there is a seperate unit called 'The lifegaurds'. Has a nice breast plate and white plume on hat, with red tunic.

What total nonsense !. The Household cavalry consists of two regiments, 'The Lifegaurds' and 'The Blue and the Royals'. In Napoleonic times the former wore a red tunic with black hat and plume and no breast plate. The one they use in the game is the modern dress as taken from any London postcard. As for the 'Blues and Royals', well as you might have guessed they wore blue tunics.

So there you have it, its not just the colour of the uniforms, the unit types as well. I won't mention the British rifles who should be in green or the Brit artillery crews which were in blue. Cossacks 2 manged to get the uniforms right, even if it is a pain to play as it loads up so slowly.

I dare not even begin to look at the other nations armies. Get these sorted and let players rely on the flag to see their troops, as in histroy. Is this an arcade game or something to stand alongside RTW as a good historical strategy game ?.

I can't post on the Eidos forum as I cant get acitvated. (common complaint). If anyone deems this worthy enough can you please cut and paste this and post it on there for me, for attention of developers.

thanks,

Calvados. (UK)

Yep, there are a lott of thinks that aren't correct. Siege for example, read my thread. But still i am going to buy the game, because i like this periode. And there is not a othor great Napoleonic war game. (Cossaks 2 maybe, but the grapichs are terrible) Btw, is Activision planing to make a Napoleonic Total war?

The incorrect uniforms are just texture files and these can all be fixed :)

A bigger problem is (for example) where no suitable headgear is portrayed in the game's models, so for example it's not possible to get accurate Austrian artillery at the moment since these crews all wore bicornes.

However, once we can get into the 3d model file structure we can add correct models (e.g. hats, cannons) as well as correct uniforms.

There isnt anything wrong with Cossacks 2's graphics.. The sprites in Cossacks 2 are 50 times better than those in Medieval or Shogun total war.. (Both excellent games)
They are not near my conscience, their defeat does by their own insinuation grow...

That's probably because those games are a lot older then Cossacks 2.

I would agree the graphic quality of Cossacks II would be marginally acceptable for most current release game qualities, but VERY few current release games have recommended system requirement's of:

CPU: 2400 MHz
RAM: 768 MB
Video: 128 MB

Even the very BARE minimums for Cossacks II (1500 MHz/ 512 MB RAM/
64 MB Video) are monsterously large compared to C&C:Generals (800 MHz/128 MB RAM/ 32 MB Video) , let alone Rome:TW (1.0GHz / 256 MB RAM/ 64MB Video). Even DOOM III (1.5 GHz / 384MB RAM/ 64MB Video) is slightly less system intensive!

Personally, I doubt my system could run Cossacks II even if I wanted to.

But even if I COULD buy it, I'd truly be expectant of a graphics quality that is matching (or exceding) that of all of the games above, and not just it's graphics in comparison to the VERY much older editions of the Total War franchise (Shogun: 200 MHz / 32 MB RAM/ 3-D accelerator card optional!)

cossacks 2 is ram demanding as every single soldier can be given a different order... also it is detailed.. just too small for most people to see.. lol..
I played cossacks2.. and I must say I preferred Amercan Conquest above Cos2.

and I have no problem with the inaccuracy of uniforms in a game... just give me all the extra's.. exploding cows... craters in the ground... death screams... drummer boys.. generals.. flag barears.. officers... sliders for slowin or increasing combat speed....
that and more is waaaaayyyy more important then a uniform...
