CSF first impressions!

Post by iakovos »

For anyone who hasn't noticed, indeed the full game is out.
I was told that it was pre-released in some major european cities on the 15th of March.

Ok... first comments:
As always, the manual of the game is nice, but has missing things... again (like the way to wield double machine guns).
Played the first tutorial mission with the sniper.
The game looks fantastic... plays also very good. Right from the start you begin to sneak around and to use stealth... just great! It seems that with each mission you get to see a different part of the same map. Looks nice so far.
Haven't figured out yet how the game awards the 5 stars or less yet.
Great moment of zen: I shot a German in the leg and he hopped around!
That's all for now...

I guess Canada belongs to North-America territory, so you'll have to wait 'till April :p

unfortunately

iakovos, i think that stars indicate mission completion. once you ave done all objectives you get 5 stars. in the begining there is only 1. you can check them by pressing enter, and then seleting last thing.

The game is just fabulous. I love the ability to silently kill and take long shots with the sniper rifle!

Well so far I quite like the game. I think it's a bit easy, but having said that the original Commandos was highlighted as being a hard game. The wide open spaces of the missions is nice, and I find that playing them in a stealth way is far more fun than just shooting people!

And looking in the game folders, there appears to be 17 single player maps and 11 multiplayer maps for anyone who's interested!

And if anyone has any questions about the game ask away I'm sure myself, iakovos and anyone else who has the game will be happy to answer them!

Yes, I do believe that the stars indicate mission completion, it is just that by playing the first tutorial mission and finishing all the objectives (I thought... will have to check this one out) I was awarded only 2 stars instead of 5. I'll get back to you on this one.

I am looking forward to play it on the Commandos setting for sure...

ohh, too short, i wanted more xD
great final mission in stalingrado!!!!
about game in general, i think it's quite easy, bad IA and normal graphics. but it has great music and sound effects (the voices the best i've ever heard :P), a very variety game with action and infiltrate missions, good gameplay with a few bugs but very addictive.
slow mode with sniper, the best xD

buy it !!!

Ok, found something to whine about in the game... after some experimenting I discovered that the 5 stars are awarded depending on the kills you perform in game. The more the kills the higher the score (depending on how of course you perform the kills as well), the higher the award. It reminded me of the stupid scoring system of the previous series. That means that in order to unlock the commandos difficulty, you have to perform ironically better each time, which is stupid.

As in the previous series, I decided to play for pure enjoyment at first, then try to unlock the difficulty on a second run.

i dont see why is it so worrying? it seems that you do only very few kills on each mission?
i for one, always try to kill every single soldier on the map.

Can someone who allready has the game tell me about the multiplayer possibilities? Is it possible to play the SP missions together with a frd? (I play spy, frd plays sniper for example) Or is it just like the multiplayer of commandos 3? (all get a group of soldiers and you have to kill the opponent)

Hoping for your reply!
Thx,

So far I'm not impressed, I wish they would just continue making games like Commandos 1 and 2, I fear that this game, like Commandos 3 will take more than a year before I get bored enough to finish them.

5 stars are awarded depending how much you have scored in the mission. So no doubt, you have to play better and complete all objectives. And saying about objectives, did you notice that there are hidden stuffs in the game like bonus objectives. I found one in the trapped mission by triggering the air raid alarm. The effect was cool. Well, I enjoyed the game. Superb graphics, sound, gameplay, effects. Perfect commandos game, it is. Just wondering what will be next? :)

CSF looks more like an adventure, because you might finish missions, but ending up missing things. It happened to me with the sniper mission in Stalingrad. I did not take out the officers on the machine gun nests, or the engineers. And these are bonus objectives.

So far they have "been inspired" again by the Enemy at the Gates film.
I wonder what other film is there. The first Norwegian mission reminds me of The Guns of Navarone.

They are always making missions inspired by movies. Guess how many missions of c2's been developed from movies? :)

You want me to list them all here? I have included them in the FAQ.
I am trying to see which ones are in CSF, that's all

I was playing the Panzers mission. I found that when a panzer passes, the screen vibrates and dusts start falling from the ceiling. Amusing. :)

I also liked the fact that the sniper can kill two enemies with one bullet. :D

I have 1 more question, does the "Green Beret" actually ever wear his "beret", throughout any point in the entire game? Like on the front box cover?

thx in advance :)
